Inner Reef Club

As the Inner Reef Club (IRC) will be starting in the next couple of weeks, we wish to give you a little bit about its history.

Being run as a fundraising venture the IRC has been known by several different names over its 50 plus years lifespan.

It was initially set up back in the 50's and 60's to raise money which bought lifesaving equipment in the days when sponsorship and grants were either non existent or hard to come by.

Despite the name changes it has always been run in the same format. It was in the eighties that this fundraiser took on the name The Inner Reef Club. At that time it was run to support our teams to the World Lifesaving Championships. The Coogee Team did extremely well during the 80's and 90's, consistently being place in the top 10 clubs in the world. Hawaii brought us our best result, finishing 1 point off first place. Other venues included, Bali, Wales, New Zealand and South Africa where we performed well above expectations.

Although not being run every year, the IRC has been an important fund raising venture in recent years in the support of our Junior and Cadet members. Money raised has helped our younger members pursue their ambitions in Surf Life Saving and Surf Sports. These young people are not only the clubs future but in the years ahead they will take up rolls that will shape our country's future. We would like to think it is the grounding they have received in both the Junior and Senior Clubs that will put them in good stead for the future. The lessons and skills learned in Surf will give them that added advantage in future life.

This season it is a combined effort of the One Club, both Junior and Senior that will raise such funds through the IRC to support our young members.

In the next couple of weeks you will receive an invitation to join fellow members in support of theIRC.

For all those who generously donated last year we thank you for your support and trust you will continue such support this season.

Membership is a donation of $150 and it will run over 5 weeks with a weekly prize of $250.

The major prize on week 5 will be $5000 plus prizes for 2nd of $1000 and 3rd, $500.

Each member will receive a Polo Shirt carrying the IRC logo.

Full details will be in the letter you will receive shortly.
