North Cronulla Carnival - 21 Dec 2013

All roads led to North Cronulla for the annual Christmas Carnival, which really is the first serious hit-out for all clubs in our branch this season. Whilst the boys appeared in numbers, only Olivia Karras and Stephanie Grand flew the female flag. Also our Open competitors were scarce that day.
Best on ground was Will Harrison won the U15 sprint convincingly, came 2nd in a dramatic flag final and in the process left the beach in a sling with a shoulder injury - now that worth the $20 entry fee! Tom Fagan was impressive in the U17 sprint, while Jack Harrison and Jake Irvine also gave a good account in their division of flags.
Also our Opens & U17 relay teams had a decent 'kill' which augers well for later in the year.
Whilst it was a handy effort it is clear more work is required on the training track for some to recapture last season's form.

Coogee made a mark when we saw board relay teams competing in all men's races at North Cronulla. It has been many years since Coogee was able to put forward more than just a few board paddlers but on Saturday we competed well in the boys' U15, U17 and the Open men's board relay races. Our U15 team finished 4th. Congratulations are due to Michael Cantarella, Andrew Bargenda and our young board team for their perseverance and hard work.
